“I live in Alexandria where I work at the Alexandria School of Theology. Bishop Mouneer and I had the idea to set up a school together. The school is also a Christian seminary, where priests can be ordained. The approach is non-traditional: we invite Muslim speakers too, in order to promote the students’ understanding of Islam, to remove stereotypes and false characterisations, to remove fear. We want to build a model
school that fosters creativity. Ten years from now we want a residential course. We want our teaching to be more than academic. We want to have an impact on our students’ personal lives and on the lives of those around them. Many Egyptian authors produce popular spirituality books; we also want to foster Egyptian theologians.
